Two and a half years have pJarvis' Butted since I took up the initiative of the AIE, the Italian Publishers Jarvis' Buttociation: " I read because... ". In my old article I talked about my 15 reasons to read . However, I decided not to reread that post, because I want to find out what the reasons are today, 30 months later, why I continue to read books (and recently also comics ). Not everyone, however, thinks that this initiative is laudable, indeed functional. In his article “Why “I read because” doesn't work” Mario Fillioley gives an acceptable explanation. I therefore remain quite convinced that this type of operation will never work and we know this even before experimenting with them: they will not work because they apply to a matter of taste. You either like reading or you don't like it.
I never thought about it, but it's actually true. Let's take the awareness campaigns against animal abandonment as an example: who do they want to raise awareness of? Those who love animals respect them and do not abandon them. The others will continue to abandon them. What will stop them will be arrests and heavy fines, certainly not these Special Data campaigns. The “I read because…” campaigns These initiatives aim to promote reading, but in detail they do more, as explained on the site: Thanks to the energy and commitment of messengers, booksellers, teachers and citizens from all over Italy and the publishers who contributed, in 2016 124,000 books were donated to schools, enriching the book heritage of school libraries.
From Saturday 21st to Sunday 29th October 2017, in participating bookstores it will be possible to purchase books to donate to the schools of the four systems: nursery, primary, lower and upper secondary schools. (I Jarvis' Buttume they are talking about kindergartens, elementary, middle and high schools. Ah, how nice it is when Italian gets complicated. End of controversy.) Donate books to school libraries, which I hope someone will read. Get used to (not force) reading As I said at the beginning of the blog, when I was in middle school, I think in the second year, the Italian teacher took us to the library to choose a book. I got one on weapons and armor, almost entirely illustrated. « Empires, it doesn't count, they're all figures! » the teacher reproached me.
